Musicarta's Easy Piano Style will have you 'making music in minutes!'
You now have all the resources and skills you need to tackle the MEPS showcase solos. Here they are, with some of the workbook notes that help you over the final hurdles.
Tanza
Tanza is first up, the first piece in the book 'revisited' with an added with-sixths section to build a substantial solo performance.
As always, you have the Musicarta pre-performance 'skeleton music' resource (here, shown for only the new added-sixths material), and a couple of the kinds of exercises you would by now be making up yourself to tighten up timing and fingering.
(These practice samples are recorded straight from the MIDI, with no expression at all. Practicing is practicing - but there's no reason for YOU not to make it sound as beautiful as you like!)
Naomi - Fantasie
Naomi - Fantasie is really the centerpiece of the MEPS workbook. It's in A-B-A form, and the A section is the 'One Fourth in Sixths' module study. The Mister Musicarta YouTube (MMYT) video shows the 'skeleton music' - the music minus keyboard texture and syncopation - scrolling above the MidiPiano performance.
Naomi is presented as a stand-alone module, so the build-up is 'from scratch' - a useful revision exercise to consolidate your achievements.
The Ladder
'Ladder' is a Musicarta-only term for the rising and falling musical figures using only the root and fifth of a chord which you'll find used often as endings and between-versions fillers in the MEPS pieces and studes. They're a good recipe for 'just sitting down and playing' and seeing what turns up!
In Musicarta's case, it was The Ladder piano solo, which uses another improviser's trick known as 'change one note (and see what happens)' - in this case a piece with E minor ladders over root E, then D, then C sharp, then C. This is a popular minor-key construction.
out The contrasting middle section is quite challenging. As always, you are encouraged to put together a performance of the parts you can play, rather than not play at all because there's a part you can't play!
The Musicarta Easy Piano Style (MEPS) is a way of making music at the keyboard ‘from scratch’ – of finding notes which you can be sure will sound good together and having a modern, syncopated way of playing them, right ‘off the shelf’.
The MEPS workbook modules show how the module studies and pieces were composed using the MEPS music-creating process, along with developments and variations on the formula.
So, not only will the MEPS study material get a slew of pieces into your repertoire quickly, you will also be much closer to ‘composing at the keyboard’ yourself.
Along the way, you’ll be exposed to literally hundreds of opportunities to progress in rhythmic keyboard texture, whether you end up playing the studies and pieces regularly or not. You will also learn plenty of practically applicable music theory and good practicing techniques.
Modern-styles keyboard players need to work as hard as classical musicians to advance. The Musicarta Easy Piano Style is a tried-and-tested method of focussing your efforts and maximizing your benefits. Jump on board and get with the programme now!
