Pentatonic Hanon Exercises
~ HOME PAGE ~
This USED TO BE your Patreon Tier One Finger Exercises and Scales home page. BUT...
Musicarta Patreon Tier One now includes the entire Musicarta Video Hanon - all thirty essential Hanon exercises plus ten (10) (yes, ten!) sets of variations to double/triple/quadruple your practice outcomes!
Feel excited about practicing like never before! Click through to the Hanon home page and get started!
What about Scales, then?
Well, Scales now have their own home page, where you can decide how to start or revive your scale practice regime - without getting bored stiff - and find out why you really, really should practice scales. Click through to the Musicarta Patreon Scales home page and dive right in.
So, what does that leave?
Two things...
Pentatonic Hanon ('PentHan') 01-12-20 is a substantial lesson series which drills the major pentatonic scales in triplets with repeated notes - a great way to practice the keyboard dexterity required for improvising. (As you'll hear, these patterns are 'practically solos already'.)
They're RH-only exercises (you can put a basic left hand in if you want!) so a good place to start. If you haven't worked on the pentatonic scales as exercises - in the Pentatonics Workbook, for example - click through to the PentHan 01-12-20 series home page and get cracking.
The two-handed Musicarta PentHan exercises are best
understood by listening to some of the 'Index of First Lines' below.
They're two-handed dexterity exercises using the pentatonic scales
(which you can learn about on the Musicarta Pentatonics Workbook page).
But
the Pentatonic Hanons (PentHans) are very much in the style of the
music they're mostly used in - for our purposes, blues and melodic rock
improvisation - so, much more like "what musicians really play".
They're inter/advanced level - if you need something more basic, you might want to work through the PentHan 01-12-20 Series here on Musicarta Patreon, or dive into the entire Pentatonics Workbook.
So, here's an index of first lines for the Pentatonic Hanon exercises, presented exclusively for you on Musicarta Patreon. Pick one and start the journey of a lifetime - you can never exhaust the potential of the pentatonic scales!

(...awaiting everything) |
There are six more candidates in the RH nav awaiting indexing... plus the amazing free-standing PentHan01-12-20 Series - which you will also find in the Pentatonic Workbook and Musicarta Video Hanon.
So... "fill yer boots!" But, remember...
Don't make practicing "a rod for your own back". Be a kind teacher to yourself!
No impatience! No tutting! No scolding! No damning criticism!
Preserve a relaxed, happy frame of mind, and enjoy the journey!
Thanks for studying with MUSICARTA! Come back soon!
