Rhythmic Pentatonic Scales
C Minor, Three-four ~ Page Two
Here are the last two three-four patterns in C minor.
Check you're up to speed with the T-L-R patterning.
Now work on the exercise proper.
A special case, introducing tuplets. The three notes on the last beat (right hand) are evenly spaced.
Here's the beat map. We only play this exercise with the 'shuffle' feel.
Here's the exercise proper. Let yourself apply as much 'smoothing' as you want, or can.
In practice, genuine jazz/blues 'feel' is beyond notation. 'Triplet feel' quavers are almost always 'smoothed' towards even quavers, and the whole jazz/blues feel includes playing a little behind the beat - and free of it.
Incorporate as much jazz feel 'smoothing' in these exercises as you can muster. That's what they're here for!
Go on to the Rhythmic Pentatonic Scales Diary 24-04-20 for a more free-form exploration of this type of playing.
